Lloyd’s List Intelligence (LLI) has been announced as a new joiner to the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) Professional Partner programme, reinforcing our commitment to supporting the global marine insurance community with trusted maritime data, intelligence and expertise.

IUMI has represented the interests of the marine insurance industry for more than 150 years and today brings together more than 40 national marine insurance associations worldwide. The Professional Partner programme enables specialist organisations serving the sector to contribute their expertise and engage more closely with the challenges and priorities shaping marine insurance.
Supporting confident decision-making for marine insurers operating in an increasingly complex market
The backdrop underpinning the marine insurance landscape is becoming increasingly complex and disrupted.
Geopolitical instability, evolving sanctions regimes, the growth of the shadow fleet, and opaque ownership structures are changing the risks insurers need to understand as well as the speed at which they need to be responding.
LLI’s role is to help insurers build a clearer picture of that risk and make decisions with confidence.
That starts with understanding the organisations and individuals behind a vessel, including ownership structures, counterparties and potential sanctions exposure. It also means understanding how a vessel is operating: where it has been, how it is behaving and whether its movements indicate heightened risk, including potential sanctions evasion or shadow fleet activity.
The vessel itself remains equally important. Its history, safety record and condition all contribute to an insurer’s assessment of risk. Through our maritime intelligence and the on-the-ground expertise of the Lloyd’s Agency Network, we are continuing to strengthen the information available to insurers when evaluating vessels and exposures.
When incidents occur, insurers need to move from assessing risk to establishing what happened. LLI supports claims teams with the maritime intelligence needed to reconstruct events and build situational awareness, alongside specialist legal content and precedent that can help inform the claims process.
Together, these capabilities reflect our broader commitment to helping marine insurers understand risk across the lifecycle of a decision— from the parties involved and the vessel itself, through to its behaviour at sea and, when necessary, the investigation of a claim.
Nicky Marlin, Chief Product Officer at Lloyd’s List Intelligence, said "Insurers are facing new challenges in understanding and managing risk. As such, access to trusted intelligence has never been more important. Becoming an IUMI Professional Partner strengthens our engagement with the insurance community and reinforces our commitment to helping underwriters and claims teams navigate an increasingly complex operating environment."
The announcement coincides with the IUMI Annual Conference in Rotterdam, taking place from 20–23 September 2026, where Lloyd’s List Intelligence will be exhibiting. If you are attending IUMI Rotterdam, visit the Lloyd’s List Intelligence team at Booth 12.
