This short investigation examines AIS Spoofing events displayed by Ivy Pearl, during a 99-day period between 27 Mar 2026 to 5 Jul 2026 - demonstrating how Lloyd's List Intelligence's automated Satellite Confirmed Spoofing helps elevate probable events to confirmed, enhancing compliance decision-making by reducing false positives, and providing evidencable results.
Vessel Details
- Vessel Name: Ivy Pearl (IMO 9252448)
- Vessel Type: Combined Chemical & Oil Tanker
- Flag: Hong Kong, S.A.R., China
- Registered Owner: Capricorn Investment Limited
- Commercial Operator: Unknown
- Part of the Lloyd's List Intelligence Shadow Fleet since 4 Dec 2025
(Data correct as of 22 Oct 2026)
Timeline of events
27 Mar 2026 (16:48 GMT) - Start of spoofing event, in the Venezuelan Exclusive Economic Zone, as our data models detect AIS signals resembling impossibly geometric patterns – one of the tell-tale signs of AIS spoofing.
5 Jul 2026 (14:32 GMT) - Detected spoofing event ends and the vessel continues its voyage, eventually arriving at Algeciras Anchorage on 1 Aug 2026.

From Probable to Confirmed: The Evidence
When Seasearcher's data models detect a potential spoofing event, suitable satellite imagery can be automatically checked against the vessel's AIS-reported position and timestamp. If no vessel is visible within the defined search area, the event can be elevated from Probable AIS Spoofing to Confirmed AIS Spoofing. Let's apply this to our example.
Below are four Optical satellite images taken on separate occasions during the 99-day event. Each image must be within 3 minutes or less of a reported AIS position in order to be considered valid by our data models. As we can see, the evidence shows us that the Ivy Pearl was not in its reported locations, thus confirming AIS manipulation.

This additional intelligence layer gives compliance, risk and investigative teams increased confidence when assessing vessel behaviour, allowing them to distinguish between a suspicious signal and an event supported by objective evidence.
The Advantage of Automated Satellite Confirmed Spoofing
Gain greater confidence in vessel risk assessments, clearer prioritisation of investigations, and a more defensible basis for compliance and due diligence decisions.
