Where our story began

In the 1700s, Edward Lloyd’s coffee house on Lombard Street, London, became a bustling hub for the city’s businessmen, merchants, and maritime workers. Lloyd’s recognised the demand for information on ship arrivals and departures and began posting shipping news for his patrons. This service quickly evolved, and by 1734, Lloyd’s List was born - a weekly newsletter detailing ship movements, sea routes, and trade activities.

By 1837, Lloyd’s List expanded to a daily publication, which included loading lists and Custom House clearances for London, solidifying its reputation as the go-to source for maritime news and intelligence.

The journey continues

As technology advanced, so did Lloyd’s List Intelligence. In the 1980s, we became pioneers in producing paperless market data, and in 1999, we launched Seasearcher, our first online tool for real-time vessel tracking and maritime data. These innovations have been instrumental in shaping the maritime intelligence landscape, offering diagnostic and predictive insights for our clients.

Today, we continue to lead the evolution of maritime analytics, using AI, machine learning, and big data to provide actionable intelligence. We remain committed to innovating and delivering the insights that maritime professionals need to make smarter, faster decisions.
